2000/02 Australia trip - White Bear Lake |

We bought a last few presents at the visitor’s centre, filled up the petrol and propane tanks, and fought the traffic over to the Britz depot, where we dropped off the camper and took a taxi to the airport. By the time we’d bought our duty-free Bundy Rum, wrapped our five-foot long didgeridoo , and persuaded United Airlines that we really did need all these carry-on bags, it was time to board the plane and collapse.
After a 3pm takeoff and a 14-hour flight, we arrived in LA five hours before we left. I don’t remember much about the flight but it must have been OK. In LA we went through customs without incident and then had to cart all our carry-ons around to another terminal, arriving just in time to walk onto the Northwest flight to Minneapolis. The pilot called out that it was a balmy five degrees Fahrenheit in the Twin Cities, but by the time we arrived it had warmed up to just below freezing.
Joanna and Christina met us, and we went straight to Christina’s school for their Mardi Gras celebration. By this time we’d been on the move for over 30 hours, so our attendance there was purely nominal. The kids had a good time though. At home, there appeared to be a lot of snow, a fair amount of crud, the correct number of kids, and one extra cat.
