FAMILY VERSION

The ferry docked back in Melbourne on a wet, dark morning, but we made good time to Mulgrave, and arrived in time for breakfast.  We spent most of the day cleaning up the truck and getting it ready for its next use.

Tuesday March 30th
This was our last full day in Australia and we spent most of it on last minute shopping, and sorting out some details at the bank.

We had a last dinner out at the Stamford Hotel, and then Sandie and I spent a few midnight hours sorting and packing.

Wednesday March 31st
We had a good trip back from Australia.  As expected, we had some problems with the United Airlines tickets that we’d bought (cheap) from US Airways.  It took an hour for them to get our boarding passes correct.  Security checked us out many times before we actually left Australia, but the flight back was OK.  I spent most of the flight composing an April Fools letter for the guys back at the company.

We had plenty of time for our connection at LA, which was just as well, as America West had lost us for the LA-Vegas-Minneapolis flights too.  Security searched us and our luggage again, but we had a good flight to Las Vegas and then to Minneapolis.    Christina and Michael met us at the airport at about 10 pm, still the same day, but we’d been traveling over 30 hours.

Wow, that’s it.  Two months on the road at the Prom, New South Wales, and Tasmania.  What’s next?  What we’ve been calling the Big Trip, a circuit across to Perth in Western Australia, up the west coast to Broome and the Kimberley, and across the Top End to Darwin, and then back via Alice.  The best time for this trip would be the Australian fall and winter, so it’ll overlap with our spring and summer.

Al the best from Pete and Sandie
