Friday September 21st
We were off in mid-morning, a sunny day for us to drive around Toronto and along the 401 towards Verona.  The trees were really changing colour now, about two weeks earlier than they would be back home in White Bear Lake, interesting as Toronto is actually about a hundred miles south of our home.

We were staying with family on Thirty Island Lake.

FAMILY VERSION

Sunday September 23rd .

There is a beaver lodge at the edge of their property, and both their neighbours’ beaches were lined with downed trees as a result.  They have put chicken wire around their trees and it seems to be keeping them safe.  The few trees they’d lost had had their upper trunks stripped by porcupines, difficult to guard against.  I forgot to warn them that hungry porcupines have been known to eat car tyres!

There were two or three beavers swimming around while we were there.  I was trying to get a picture of one slapping its tail, but every time I managed to startle them it was always one of the others that slapped its tail!

Monday September 24th
We surfaced a couple of hours after dawn, getting ready for our return trip to Minnesota.
