We’d looked at our route back through the Soo and around Lake Superior and thought we could take a detour up to South Porcupine and still get home on time, so we called our friends and arranged to meet them at Timmins Square, the town’s mall.

Thursday September 27th
The road from Sudbury up to Timmins begins with a few small towns, then some scenic lakes and a large waterfall on the Onaping River.  The next 120 miles or so pass through continuous forest, wild country but not much to see.

FAMILY VERSION

We found our way to Timmins Square and called our friends.  While we were waiting I noticed that most of the people shopping in the mall were speaking French, not unusual apparently for northern Ontario towns.

Friday September 28th
We’d enjoyed our stop with them and appreciated their hospitality.  I’m sure we’ll try to get together in the future, though it’ll be a 6000 mile round trip once we move to Hope, BC.
